Midterms without the fires
Every midterm season, Thornwood University's practical exams put hundreds of students in the same lab, casting their first serious spells. Twice a year, something caught fire. Usually it was the east tower.
The Arcane IT team gave every student a sandbox realm of their own. Spells now run in isolation first, so a misfired fireball damages a sandbox instead of a building. Instructors can reset a sandbox between attempts, so a student who summons something unexpected starts the next try in a clean realm. Over the year, the university provisioned 9,400 student realms.
Lab fires per semester fell by 71%. The east tower survived midterms intact; the university lost one staircase, which had been unreliable for some time. Exam season now ends with grades rather than repair bills.
